The Purity and Power of God’s Word

“The words of the Lord are pure words,
Like silver tried in a furnace of earth,
Purified seven times.”
Psalm 12:6

Father, Your Word is my comfort and my strength.
Your Word shines a light upon this dark road I travel called life (Psalm 119:105).
Your Word has been purified seven times — to perfection — Your Word is flawless (Proverbs 30:5).
Your Word will stand firm though the heavens and the earth may pass away (Matthew 24:35).
Your Word will accomplish all that You purpose it to do in the hearts of Your creation (Isaiah 55:11).
Your Word spoke, and the universe came into being (Psalm 33:6, Hebrews 11:3).

But my words — they bring doom and gloom.
My words too often speak death instead of life (Proverbs 18:21).
My lips are unclean, as Isaiah said of his own (Isaiah 6:5), therefore my words are not purified nor perfect.
My words are full of flaws and deceit (Romans 3:13–14).
My words will pass away when I pass away.
My words could never create living creatures, nor hang the sun, moon, and stars in their places.
My words are fleeting, unstable, and powerless.

It is far better to trust in Your words than in my own or in any finite man’s words (Psalm 118:8).
Your Word holds the worlds in place (Hebrews 1:3); mine wavers and changes with emotion.

If I need strength, let me run to Your Word (Psalm 119:28).
If I need comfort, let me hide in Your Word (Psalm 119:50).
If I need joy, let me seek out Your Word (Jeremiah 15:16).
If I need peace, let me turn to Your Word (Psalm 119:165).
If I need guidance, let me read Your Word (Psalm 119:105).
If I need wisdom, let me ask according to Your Word (James 1:5).
If I need reproof or correction, let me not turn aside from Your Word (2 Timothy 3:16–17).

Your Word is better than life itself (Psalm 63:3) and sweeter than honey to my mouth (Psalm 119:103).
Your Word is holy and pure, full of hope and truth (John 17:17, Romans 15:4).
I can only find true encouragement for my soul in Your Word, and truth to guide my life in it.

Help me to delight myself in Your Word (Psalm 1:2)
and to grow as a strong tree planted by the rivers of water (Psalm 1:3),
that I may share Your Word with others—
so they too may taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8)
and experience the power and purity of Your precious Word.
