"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." — 1 Timothy 1:7
God has equipped us with everything we need for victorious Christian living:
Power — to overcome the sins and temptations that cling so tightly.
Love — to reflect His character in a world drowning in darkness and despair.
Self-control — to build and sustain holy habits that prepare our hearts for heaven.
Power. Love. Self-control. OVER. Fear.
Yet fear is persistent. It tries to twist what God gives into something powerless:
Fear overcomes power when we start believing the lie that God cannot save us from our sinful tendencies. Fear whispers that we are chained, helpless, and destined to fail. It leaves us spiritually paralyzed.
Fear overcomes love when we begin to think we are unlovable or beyond acceptance—either by God or by others. Fear convinces us that showing love, especially to those who have hurt us, is impossible. It fosters selfishness and suffocates the love of Christ within us.
Fear overcomes self-control when we cling to habits that bring temporary pleasure, believing they are essential for our happiness. Fear tells us that letting go will leave us empty. It blinds us to eternal glory and makes us resistant to change.
So how do we overcome fear?
We must begin where Scripture begins: “For God…”
We cannot defeat fear by trying harder or willing ourselves into strength. Human determination alone will never produce power, love, or a sound mind.
These are gifts, not achievements.
It is God who breaks the chains of fear.
It is God who pours power into weak hearts.
It is God who fills us with divine love.
It is God who gives us clarity, discipline, and a sound mind.
On our own, we feel fear.
With Him, we overcome fear.
Let Him be the Source. Let Him be the Strength. Let Him supply the power, love, and self-control that fear cannot withstand.
